3 Winter Tips from an Iowa City IA Chiropractor

We are quickly approaching the dead of winter. The onset of winter means more ice, more snow, and frigid temperatures. Below are 3 tips from your Iowa City IA chiropractor to help increase your chances of making it through injury free.

1. When it comes to shoveling snow - always lift with your legs. The muscles in your legs are very strong. Use them to your advantage and let them help take some of the pressure off your low back. Doing so, can help avoid low back injuries.

2. Be careful how you walk Changes in your gait while walking on snow and ice can create problems in your spine. Be conscious of these gait changes and try to avoid them. If it is unavoidable make sure to get your spine checked by a chiropractor to avoid any long term effects.

3. Avoid sitting too long. As it is snowing and freezing outside, we have the tendency to be less active than we during other seasons of the year. Make sure that you are not sitting too long. A good rule of thumb – make sure that you are at least getting up and walking at least every 50 minutes.
