RUN RUN RUN! PDF Print E-mail

I (Dr. Christine) completed my first ½ marathon on Saturday, Oct. 17! I finished with a time of 2 hours and 4 minutes. My goal was 2 hours – but considering it was freezing cold and my kids had kept me up a large portion of the night – I was happy with it! I will run another race in San Antonio in November.

Dr. Ryan also ran the race. He finished in 1 hour 35 minutes – 19 minutes faster that his previous two ½ marathons! He will run a full marathon (26.2 miles) in San Antonio in November.

BACKPACK SAFETY PDF Print E-mail

It’s back to school time again! Parents should remember the 15 percent rule to prevent serious spinal injury to your child. Your child’s backpack should weigh no more then 15 percent of his or her total body weight. For example, a 60lb child’s backpack should weigh no more then 9 pounds; an 80lb child no more then 12 pounds, etc. Also, pick out a backpack with wide padded straps and make sure your child uses both straps and hip strap if available. Make sure to weigh your child’s backpack weekly and “pop quiz” them to make sure they are using their backpack properly. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if your child complains of symptoms or if you have any questions regarding proper backpack safety. Have a happy and safe school year!

GOT HEADACHES? PDF Print E-mail

Did you know that chiropractic is one of the most effective solutions for
Headaches? It is a common myth that headache pain comes merely
from stress. Headaches are caused from a blockage in the neck or spine.
Just like back pain is caused by a block in a different part of the spine!
Picture a congested expressway. When you are under stressful
situations, your heart rate increases and other vital signs increase. This
causes a traffic jam on the expressway. When there are problems with the spine and vital signs increase due to stress – which in combination block the bodies ability to cope with the
situation adequately – that is when you get a headache. What is a
headache? A headache is your body trying to tell you that there is a
blockage somewhere in the neck or spine. This makes perfect sense if you think about it. Your body is trying to tell you what’s wrong and showing the pathway to fixing it! The next
time you or someone you know experiences a headache, remember
that it is your bodies way of letting you know – it’s time to remove the
blockage!

MILITARY JOURNAL PROVIDES MORE POSITIVE PRESS PDF Print E-mail

We all know someone how has served or is currently serving to protect our rights as Americans. It is important to make sure our returning vets have all the proper health care including chiropractic to maximize their recovery. Recent military journals have provided more positive press as to the benefits of chiropractic care and the importance of pushing legislation to cover veterans. The Toronto Star devoted a two-page spread to chiropractic and two articles published in the June 2009 issue of Military Medicine, the official monthly journal of AMSUS (Association of Military Surgeons in the United States), Society of the Federal Health Agencies, discussed chiropractic care benefits and its inclusion in military and veterans administration health care environments.
